6e302bb3a2 op_store: add a virtual root operation, similar to root commit
It seems obvious in hindsight to have a virtual root operation just
like we have a virtual root commit. It removes the same kind of
problems by making sure there's always a common ancestor (or multiple)
between any two commits.

I think the reason I didn't add a root operation from the beginning
was that there used to be a mandatory working-copy commit in the view
(this was before support for multiple workspaces).

Perhaps we should remove the "initialize repo" operation now. The only
difference between their view objects is that the "initialize repo"
operation adds the root commit as a head. We could add that to the
root operation, but then the root operation's value depends on the
commit backend.

c9af8bf43a view: drop tracking of public heads
We've had the public_heads for as long as we've had the View object,
IIRC (I didn't check), but we still don't use it for anything. I don't
have any concrete plans for using it either. Maybe our config for
immutable commits is good enough, or maybe we'll want something more
generic (like Mercurial's phases). For now, I think we should simplify
by removing it the storage for public heads.

83ede241e3 op_walk: don't resolve heads beyond @ operation
Since `jj undo --at-op=OP @` resolves @ to OP, I think OP should be the head
in that context, and the descendants of OP shouldn't be accessible by @+.

e9d31177cb op_store: implement GC of unreachble operations and views
Since new operations and views may be added concurrently by another process,
there's a risk of data corruption. The keep_newer parameter is a mitigation
for this problem. It's set to preserve files modified within the last 2 weeks,
which is the default of "git gc". Still, a concurrent process may replace an
existing view which is about to be deleted by the gc process, and the view
file would be lost.

e5255135bb op_walk: add function that reparents (and abandons) operation range
This will be used in "jj op abandon ..op_id" command. The "op_id..@" range will
be reparented onto the root operation.

The current implementation is good enough for local repos, but it won't scale.
We might want to extract it as a trait method or introduce OpIndex for
efficient DAG operation.

3eafca65ea op_walk: add support for op_id+ (children) operator
A possible use case is when doing some archaeology around a certain operation.

The current implementation is quadratic if + is repeated. Suppose op_id is
usually close to the current op heads, I think it'll practically work better
than building a reverse lookup table.

aac5b7aa25 cargo: rename crates from jujutsu/jujutsu-lib to jj-cli/jj-lib
Almost everyone calls the project "jj", and there seeems to be
consensus that we should rename the crates. I originally wanted the
crates to be called `jj` and `jj-lib`, but `jj` was already
taken. `jj-cli` is probably at least as good for it anyway.

Once we've published a 0.8.0 under the new names, we'll release 0.7.1
versions under the old names with pointers to the new crates names.

5f74dd5db3 repo: implement Repo on ReadonlyRepo instead of its Arc
I'd like to be able to pass a `self` of `type `&ReadonlyRepo` to
functions that take a `&dyn Repo`. For that, we need `ReadonlyRepo`
itself to implement `Repo` instead of having `Arc<ReadonlyRepo>`
implement it. I could have solved it in a different way, but the `Arc`
requirement seems like an unnecessary constraint.

37ba17589d simple_op_heads_store: rename storage directory
`SimpleOpHeadsStore` currently stores its files in
`.jj/repo/op_heads/simple_op_heads/`. The `.jj/repo/op_heads/type`
file indicates the type of op-heads backend. If that contains
"simple_op_head_store", we use the `SimpleOpHeadsStore`
backend. There's no need for the `simple_op_heads` directory to also
indicate the type of backend in its name. I kept just the `heads` in
the name to make it less redundant with the parent directory (which is
`op_heads)`. We could alternatively call the directory `values` or
similar.

f1d7bbe508 testutils: create a function for writing a random commit to MutableRepo
We already have `create_random_commit()`, which returns a
`CommitBuilder`. Most callers directly write that to a
`MutableRepo`. That currently returns a `Commit`, but I'm about to
make it propagate errors from the backend. That would add an
`unwrap()` to this sequence, making it longer. Let's create a simple
helper for these callers to simplify this common pattern.

49b2f3b6ca commit_builder: keep MutableRepo reference
When you're done with the `CommitBuilder`, you're going to have to
call `write_to_repo()`, passing it a mutable `MutableRepo`
reference. It's a bit simpler to pass that reference when we create
the `CommitBuilder` instead, so that's what this patch does.

A drawback of passing in the mutable reference when we create the
builder is that we can't have multiple unfinished `CommitBuilder`
instance live at the same time. We don't have any such use cases yet,
and it's not hard to work around them, so I think this change is worth
it.

986649623d commit_builder: relax type of description parameter
The next commit will introduce a newtype for -m/--message argument which
can be converted Into<String>.

Since CommitBuilder is a thin wrapper, code bloat caused by generic parameters
wouldn't matter. I have another set of commits that makes all builder methods
accept Into/IntoIterator, which will remove some of .clone() calls from tests.

9502d84872 operations: make hostname and username configurable
We currently get the hostname and username from the `whoami` crate. We
do that in lib crate, without giving the caller a way to override
them. That seems wrong since it might be used in a server and
performing operations on behalf of some other user. This commit makes
the hostname and username configurable, so the calling crate can pass
them in. If they have not been passed in, we still default to the
values from the `whoami` crate.

eb89f6b6ca tests: consistently import create_random_tree()
These calls often appear in expressions long enough that not having to

noticed because IntelliJ told me that `test_git.rs` had some
unnecessary qualificiations (the function was already imported there).

5c6f82ec7b tests: remove &UserSettings argument from TestRepo::init()
We don't even have any settings that affect the repo, so there's no

working-copy commit when we initialize a repo (we do that when we
attach the workspace).

e384f97b20 transaction: check that we haven't forgotten to rebase descendants (#111)
If we have recorded in `MutableRepo` that commits have been abandoned
or rewritten, we should always rebase descendants before committing
the transaction (otherwise there's no reason to record the
rewrites). That's not much of a risk in the CLI because we already
have that logic in a central place there (`finish_transaction()`), but
other users of the library crate could easily miss it. Perhaps we
should automatically do any necessary rebasing we commit the
transaction in the library crate instead, but for now let's just have
a check for that to catch such bugs.

70b99c960e transaction: make commit() return resulting ReadonlyRepo
I've wanted the API to look like this for a while. It seems like a
good API to me. It means that the caller won't have to reload the repo
after committing. The cost seems relatively small. It involves copying
potentially a lot of data in memory (at least the View object), but it
shouldn't involve reading from disk or any other processing. To reduce
the amount of data to copy, it may be worth switching to persistent
data types. I've also wanted to do that for the copying we do when
start a transaction.

I couldn't measure any slowdown caused by this change.
