13ccd92766 settings: do not store "debug.randomness-seed" in stringified form
While this is a debug option, it doesn't make sense to store an integer value
as a string. We can parse the environment variable instead. The variable is
temporarily parsed into i64 because i64 is the integer type of TOML.
toml_edit::Value doesn't implement any other integer conversion functions.

da01734639 settings: own StackedConfig by UserSettings, migrate tests to use config layer
UserSettings::get_*() will be changed to look up a merged value from
StackedConfig, not from a merged config::Value. This will help migrate away
from the config crate.

Not all tests are ported to ConfigLayer::parse() because it seemed a bit odd
to format!() a TOML document and parse it to build a table of configuration
variables.

739bf8decf repo_path: add stub for checked to_fs_path(), rename unchecked functions
I'm going to add "checked" version of to_fs_path(), but all callers can't be
migrated to it. For example, an error message should be produced even if the
path is malformed.

This patch also adds error variants to propagate InvalidRepoPathError. They
don't use ::Other { .. } so the errors can be distinguished in tests.

This unblocks the use of TestBackend in long-running processes such as fuzzer.
It should also be safer because TempDir doesn't guarantee that the path is never

a06c393716 tests: use canonicalized paths in TestBackend
In `TestBackend`, we simply use the path as key to look up the storage
in memory. That means we can't rely on the file system to look find
the same path given two different representaitons of the same path. We
therefore need to canonicalize the paths if we want to allow the
caller to pass in different paths for the same real path.

0a94dcc5e3 repo: rename RepoLoader::init() to init_from_file_system()
`RepoLoader` can be used on a server. You would then call
`RepoLoader::new()`. Let's clarify what `init()` does by renaming it
and documenting it.

I think `WorkspaceLoader`, OTOH, is only useful for loading a
workspace from disk. I also documented that.

8eb3d85b1c backend: make write methods async
This doesn't provide any benefit yet bit I think we've known for a
while that we want to make the backend write methods async. It's just
not been important to Google because we have the local daemon process
that makes our writes pretty fast. Regardless, this first commit just
changes the API and all callers immediately block for now, so it won't
help even on slow backends.

acdcb578bc copies: in unsupported backends, return an empty stream instead of error
The native backend currently errors out if you ask it about copies. So
does the test backend. I think it's better to return an empty stream
of copies so it doesn't prevent other functionality.

- use a single commit instead of an array of them. This simplifies the
  implementation. A higher level api can wrap this when an array of
  commits is desired and those semantics are figured out.
- since this API is directly 1-1 on parents, there are no conflicts
- if we introduce a higher level API that handles lists of commits, we
  may need to restore the conflict/resolved distinction, but for now
  simplify

404f31cbc1 backend: add error variant for access denied, handle when diffing
Some backends, like the one we have at Google, can restrict access to
certain files. For such files, if they return a regular
`BackendError::ReadObject`, then that will terminate iteration in many
cases (e.g. when diffing or listing files). This patch adds a new
error variant for them to return instead, plus handling of such errors
in diff output and in the working copy.

In order to test the feature, I added a new commit backend that
returns the new `ReadAccessDenied` error when the caller tries to read
certain objects.

d66fcf2ca0 compile integration tests as a single binary
this greatly speeds up the time to run all tests, at the cost of slightly larger recompile times for individual tests.

this unfortunately adds the requirement that all tests are listed in `runner.rs` for the crate.
to avoid forgetting, i've added a new test that ensures the directory is in sync with the file.

 ## benchmarks

before this change, recompiling all tests took 32-50 seconds and running a single test took 3.5 seconds:

```
; hyperfine 'touch lib/src/lib.rs && cargo t --test test_working_copy'
  Time (mean ± σ):      3.543 s ±  0.168 s    [User: 2.597 s, System: 1.262 s]
  Range (min … max):    3.400 s …  3.847 s    10 runs
```

after this change, recompiling all tests take 4 seconds:
```
;  hyperfine 'touch lib/src/lib.rs ; cargo t --test runner --no-run'
  Time (mean ± σ):      4.055 s ±  0.123 s    [User: 3.591 s, System: 1.593 s]
  Range (min … max):    3.804 s …  4.159 s    10 runs
```
and running a single test takes about the same:
```
; hyperfine 'touch lib/src/lib.rs && cargo t --test runner -- test_working_copy'
  Time (mean ± σ):      4.129 s ±  0.120 s    [User: 3.636 s, System: 1.593 s]
  Range (min … max):    3.933 s …  4.346 s    10 runs
```

about 1.4 seconds of that is the time for the runner, of which .4 is the time for the linker. so
there may be room for further improving the times.

1cc271441f gc: implement basic GC for Git backend
This adds an initial `jj util gc` command, which simply calls `git gc`
when using the Git backend. That should already be useful in
non-colocated repos because it's not obvious how to GC (repack) such
repos. In my own jj repo, it shrunk `.jj/repo/store/` from 2.4 GiB to
780 MiB, and `jj log --ignore-working-copy` was sped up from 157 ms to
86 ms.

I haven't added any tests because the functionality depends on having
`git` binary on the PATH, which we don't yet depend on anywhere
else. I think we'll still be able to test much of the future parts of
garbage collection without a `git` binary because the interesting
parts are about manipulating the Git repo before calling `git gc` on
it.
