Extract auto_update_ui crate (#21008)
This PR extracts an `auto_update_ui` crate out of the `auto_update`
crate.

This allows `auto_update` to not depend on heavier crates like `editor`,
which in turn allows other downstream crates to start building sooner.

Rebuild SSH installation (#20220)
Closes #ISSUE

This refactors SSH installation to require less shell stuff. We'd like
to
support arbitrary remote hosts, and unfortunately csh/tcsh have quoting
rules
that make it impossible to run multi-line scripts.

The primary changes are:
* The target path now contains the version:
`./zed_server/zed-remote-server-{release_channel}-{version}`
* We do all our processing in a temporary file and `mv` it into place.
* We do fewer calls to `ssh_command` overall. With the previous two
changes we can avoid lock files, and fuser calls. Instead cleanup of old
binaries now happens in `execute_run`.
* We only try to install the remote server when the connection is
established, not on each project open.

This should also put us in a good position if we want to pre-emptively
install new versions when the auto-updater detects an update for the
running version of zed (but that's not wired up yet)

Release Notes:

- Remoting: Fixed remoting when the remote runs `tcsh`
- Remoting: Improved latency of connecting

This ensures that we detect if a new nightly version of the remote

Previously we would always mark a version as matching if they had the

ssh remoting: Use matching versions of remote server binary (#19740)
This changes the download logic to not fetch the latest version, but to

Release Notes:

- Changed the update logic of the SSH remote server to not fetch the

We are now using the `view release notes locally` action when clicking
on the update toast - the endpoint for this action does not currently
return anything for valid for these channels, as we don't have support
yet for diffing between these builds, so for now, [continue to do what
the `view release notes` action did and just send the user to the commit
view on
GitHub](caffb2733f/crates/auto_update/src/auto_update.rs (L255-L260)).
It is a bit counterintuitive to send the user to the browser when using
the "local" action, but this is just a patch in the interim.

If we make adjustments to our channels to keep the nightly tag stable
and add some sort of unique suffix, like a timestamp, we can then adjust
things to return these in the request body and show them in the editor.

Show release notes locally when showing update notification (#18486)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/17527

I think we are ok to switch to using the local action now. There are a
few things we don't support, like media, but we don't include media
directly too often, and I think this might help push the community to
maybe add support for it. That being said, I updated the markdown coming
back from the endpoint to include links to the web version of the
release notes, so they can always hop over to that version, if they
would like.

a better eye wants to update this, you can do that here:

Unmount the auto-update disk image regardless of the auto-update status (#17019)
Closes #10782

In some cases, during the auto-update process,
the update can fail and leave a dangling disk image in macOS. If the
auto-update fails again, a new dangling mounted volume will be left
behind. To avoid polluting the system with these dangling mounted disk
images,
implement [the `Drop`
trait](https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/ops/trait.Drop.html) for the
`MacOSUnmounter` struct. This will ensure that the disk image
is unmounted when the `install_release_macos` function exits regardless
of its result.

## How to test this locally

Unfortunately, I was a bit too lazy to find a smarter way to test this,
so I simply commented out a bunch of lines to emulate the auto-update
process. To replicate the linked issue (#10782), you can apply the
attached patch. Build the Zed binary and run it. The auto-update should
fail, leaving the dangling mounted disk image in the system:

```shell
>diskutil list
/dev/disk5 (synthesized):
   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
   0:      APFS Container Scheme -                      +220.6 MB   disk5
                                 Physical Store disk4s1
   1:                APFS Volume Zed                     190.6 MB   disk5s1
```

Run the Zed binary again to create another mounted disk image:

```shell
>diskutil list
/dev/disk5 (synthesized):
   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
   0:      APFS Container Scheme -                      +220.6 MB   disk5
                                 Physical Store disk4s1
   1:                APFS Volume Zed                     190.6 MB   disk5s1
/dev/disk7 (synthesized):
   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
   0:      APFS Container Scheme -                      +220.6 MB   disk7
                                 Physical Store disk6s1
ping #6687
This is the third iteration of this PR ([v2
here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/11949)) and uses a
different approach to the first two (the process wrapper lib was a
maintainability nightmare). While the first two attempted to spawn the
necessary processes using flatpak-spawn and host-spawn from the app
inside the sandbox, this version first spawns the cli binary which then
restart's itself *outside* of the sandbox using flatpak-spawn. The
restarted cli process than can call the bundled app binary normally,
with no need for flatpak-spawn because it is already outside of the
sandbox. This is done instead of keeping the cli in the sandbox because
ipc becomes very difficult and broken when trying to do it across the
sandbox.
generated using the script):
linux: Store binary path before restart to handle deleted binary file (#11568)
This fixes restart after updates not working on Linux.
On Linux we can't reliably get the binary path after an update, because
the original binary was deleted and the path will contain ` (deleted)`.
See: https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/69343
We *could* strip ` (deleted)` off, but that feels nasty. So instead we
save the original binary path, before we do the installation, then
restart.
Later on, we can also change this to be a _new_ binary path returned by
the installers, which we then have to start.
Refactor workspace notifications to use explicit NotificationId type (#10342)
This PR reworks the way workspace notifications are identified to use a
new `NotificationId` type.
A `NotificationId` is bound to a given type that is used as a unique
identifier. Generally this will be a unit struct that can be used to
uniquely identify this notification.
A `NotificationId` can also accept an optional `ElementId` in order to
distinguish between different notifications of the same type.
This system avoids the issue we had previously of selecting `usize` IDs
somewhat arbitrarily and running the risk of having two independent
notifications collide (and thus interfere with each other).
This also fixes a bug where multiple suggestion notifications for the
same extension could be live at once
Additionally, for bundled languages we moved these settings out of the
`settings/default.json` and into their respective `config.toml`s .
For languages currently provided by extensions, we are leaving the
values in the `settings/default.json` temporarily until all released
versions of Zed are able to load these settings from the extension.
---
Along the way we ended up refactoring the `Settings::load` method
slightly, introducing a new `SettingsSources` struct to better convey
where the settings are being loaded from.
This makes it easier to load settings from specific locations/sets of
locations in an explicit way.
Move Clippy configuration to the workspace level (#8891)
This PR moves the Clippy configuration up to the workspace level.
We're using the [`lints`
table](https://doc.rust-lang.org/cargo/reference/workspaces.html#the-lints-table)
to configure the Clippy ruleset in the workspace's `Cargo.toml`.
Each crate in the workspace now has the following in their own
`Cargo.toml` to inherit the lints from the workspace:
```toml
[lints]
workspace = true
```
This allows for configuring rust-analyzer to show Clippy lints in the
editor by using the following configuration in your Zed `settings.json`:
```json
{
  "lsp": {
    "rust-analyzer": {
      "initialization_options": {
        "check": {
          "command": "clippy"
        }
      }
    }
  }
```
Add action to open release notes locally (#8173)
Fixes: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5019
zed.dev PR: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed.dev/pull/562
I've been wanting to be able to open release notes in Zed for awhile,
but was blocked on having a rendered Markdown view. Now that that is
mostly there, I think we can add this. I have not removed the `auto
update: view release notes` action, since the Markdown render view
doesn't support displaying media yet. I've opted to just add a new
action: `auto update: view release notes locally`. I'd imagine that in
the future, once the rendered view supports media, we could remove `view
release notes` and `view release notes locally` could replace it.
Clicking the toast that normally is presented on update
(https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7597) would show the notes
locally.
The action works for stable and preview as expected; for dev and
nightly, it just pulls the latest stable, for testing purposes.
I changed the way the markdown rendered view works by allowing a tab
description to be passed in.
For files that have a name, it will use `Preview <name>`:
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/19867440/a0ef34e5-bd6d-4b0c-a684-9b09d350aec4">
For untitled files, it defaults back to `Markdown preview`:
<img width="1496" alt="SCR-20240222-byip"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/19867440/2ba3f336-6198-4dce-8867-cf0e45f2c646">
